A Broken Lullaby~A Collaboration With Standard Issue Life

A collaboration between Standard Issue Life and Ink and Quill

What can I say about working with Matt from Standard Issue Life on the lyrics for this song, brilliant. I have never written song lyric’s before, so it was a new experience for me and the end result is wonderful.

Twenty years ago, Matt wrote a short poem and together we developed this poem into a song, now known as “A Broken Lullaby.”

Have a listen and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed helping Matt write it!

Now I have been put back up on the shelf
To be bought and sold just like everyone else
Your pain was mistaken
My burdens still weigh
It was never my dream to be left this way
I’ll do whatever it is
Whatever you say
I’ll do whatever it is
Whatever you say
Just give me a chance
To find my way
Back to the start
Back to your heart

Night takes the stage
No sun to warm my pain
I wallow in dismay
No place to hide the decay
I’ll do what it takes
To make you believe
I’ve changed my ways
No I’m not the same
Your pain was mistaken
The burdens still weigh
You’re the only one that can keep me sane

This is not where I belong,
I’ve been dreaming far too long
I’ve written all these songs
I’ve loved you all along
My heart aches for you
I’ll leave it all behind
The pain, the sorrow
To make you see
I just want to be
Back with you
Back to the start
Back to your heart

All of my words have fallen on deaf ears
With all of my tears, our memories purged
I can’t come to terms
With the hand that I’ve been dealt
I’m having trouble sleeping and
My mind is full of doubts
The clock continues ticking
While my heart is giving out
All the pain that I am feeling
Makes me want to shout
Without your love
My heart just gathers dust
With a broken lullaby
I still long for your touch
But now I have been put back up on the shelf
To be bought and sold just like everyone else
Your pain was mistaken
And my burdens still weigh
It was never my dream to be left this way
