Mr’s Poem: Through My Window

Wow. What a gorgeous poem, written by Rowena’s from Beyond The Flow, 11 year old son. How special and beautiful. A poet in the making!

Looking out my window,
I hear a sound.
Scutter scutter.
Scutter scutter.
Out in the garden,
there’s a little white rabbit.
Mum!
Dad!
But when we get back,
it’s gone…
just like a puff of smoke.

No one believes me.
They just say
that I’m dreaming.
Imagination overload
all over again.
But I know what I saw.

Now,
that I’m back here alone,
the rabbit returns.
It’s glowing gold,
red eyes flashing
in the darkness.
What is it?
Why has it come?

Then, I blink again.
The rabbit burns up into flames
with an even brighter glow
and is gone.

In the morning,
I found no rabbit prints

in the grass.

No sign of the rabbit at all.
Yet,

I know what I saw…

a mysterious rabbit

hopping outside

my bedroom window.

  1. Jennifer, thanks so much for reblogging this. My son will be stoked. It’s extraordinary to think that a poem by an 11 year old is making it’s way around the world. Just wasn’t a possibility when I was a kid. I had a poem published in a camp newsletter and that was as good as it got!
