My Heart In Your Hands

If my heart lies
still and
unguarded
in the fields of jasmine,
When the storms winds blow
And trifle upon the land
Will you shelter my heart in your hands?

If my heart lies
open and
flowing
in the sea of Kara,
When the waves froth
and ice bergs pillar
Will you shelter my heart in your hands?

If my heart lies
sweeping
and pure
in the sands of Arabia,
When the sun welts
and beats against the desert lands
Will you shelter my heart in your hands?

If my heart lies
chaotic
and corrupted
in the streets of Rome,
Where history marks the stones
and alleyways hide the clandestine,
Will you shelter my heart in your hands?

If my heart lies
sleeping
and weeps
In the dark of night,
Where shadows creep
And nightmares reap my mind
Will you shelter my heart in your hands?

  1. Love this. “Will you shelter my heart in your hands?” That repitition is beautiful and pleading. I think all of us want that, someone who is our security, who keeps our heart safe. They may hurt at times, but they will never crush it. Great poem.
